Field Notes

Short entries from inside the routine. No theory, no filler — one observation and one instruction per week.

Week 30 // Discipline/27 Jul 2026/2 min

The Cost Of A Clean Morning

Every clean morning is paid for the night before. There is no version of a sovereign 04:00 that begins at 04:00 — it begins when you close the laptop, put the phone in another room, and refuse the last hour of static.

Most people are not undisciplined. They are simply unwilling to pay in advance. They want the output of the morning without the surrender of the evening.

This week: audit your last waking hour, not your first. That hour is the real gate.

Week 29 // Output/20 Jul 2026/2 min

Volume Is A Vote

Steps and kilograms are not vanity metrics — they are ballots. Every session is a vote cast for the man you intend to become, and abstention is also a vote.

I log everything, not because the numbers are sacred, but because the record is honest when memory is not. The board does not flatter you.

This week: log seven days without a single blank. Not perfect days. Logged days.

Silence Before Strategy

I do not open the plan until I have sat in silence. Strategy built on a noisy mind is just anxiety with a spreadsheet attached.

Ten minutes of stillness before the first decision has been worth more to this company than any productivity system I have ever bought.

This week: no input for the first ten minutes of the day. No feed, no music, no voice but your own.

Week 27 // Stewardship/6 Jul 2026/2 min

The Record Of Repair

Sobriety is not a single decision — it is a maintained structure. 10 January 2022 was the day the alcohol stopped. 27 August 2023 was the day the whole structure came clean.

What kept it standing was not willpower. It was architecture: a routine that made the wrong move inconvenient and the right move automatic.

This week: remove one point of friction from a good habit, and add one point of friction to a bad one.
